Hawaii Governor Ige Recognizes Clean Energy Week

September 23, 2019 — Hawaii Governor David Y. Ige has issued a state proclamation recognizing September 23-27, 2019 as Clean Energy Week in his home state.

In the proclamation, Gov. Ige notes that “in June 2015, Hawai’i was the first state in the nation to set a 100 percent renewable portfolio standard for the electricity sector by 2045.”

Hawaii is now one of 25 states in the country to formally recognize National Clean Energy Week 2019.

STATE OF HAWAII

Proclamation

WHEREAS, reducing our use of fossil fuels is essential to the health of our planet; and

WHEREAS, the State of Hawai’i is committed to cost effective investments in clean energy production and management as well as energy security; and

WHEREAS, in June 2015, Hawai’i was the first state in the nation to set a 100 percent renewable portfolio standard for the electricity sector by 2045; and

WHEREAS, in 2018, Hawai’i’s renewable portfolio standards stood at 26.7%, making the state on track to achieve the interim statutory 2020 target of 30 percent; and

WHEREAS, clean energy from renewable sources, such as wind, solar, hydro, bioenergy and geothermal, is part of Hawai’i’s energy future; and

WHEREAS, clean and readily abundant forms of energy are powering Hawai’i homes and businesses more than ever before; and 


WHEREAS, the clean energy sector creates local jobs and contributes to the growth of the state’s innovation economy;

THEREFORE, I, DAVID Y. IGE, Governor, and I, JOSHUA B. GREEN, Lieutenant Governor of the State of Hawai’i, do hereby proclaim September 23-27, 2019 as


“CLEAN ENERGY WEEK”

in Hawai’i and ask the people of the Aloha State to join us in observing National Clean Energy Week and encourage commonsense solutions to address the nation and the state’s economic and energy needs in the 21st century.
