Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has issued a state proclamation recognizing September 21-25, 2020 as Clean Energy Week in his home state.
In the proclamation, Gov. Hogan notes the economic importance of the energy sector and says that “clean, affordable, and reliable energy is the foundation on which a strong economy is built.”
Maryland is one of the first states in the country to formally recognize National Clean Energy Week 2020.

WHEREAS, clean energy is part of our state and our country’s energy future. It includes generation from clean and renewable sources such as solar, hydro, wind, and geothermal; and
WHEREAS, the State of Maryland supports all of the above energy strategies because clean, affordable, and reliable energy is the foundation on which a strong economy is built; and
WHEREAS, the State is a national leader in clean energy given our numerous programs and efforts to encourage the development of renewable energy across the state; and
WHEREAS, the State supports the development of a strong in-state renewable energy manufacturing sector to further diversify our economy; and
WHEREAS, the State’s leadership through energy efficiency programs offered by the Maryland Energy Administration and programs such as EmPOWER are a testament to the belief that the cleanest and cheapest form of energy is that which is neither produced nor consumed; and
WHEREAS, we must harness the power of entrepreneurs and small businesses in Maryland, along with government collaboration, to assert energy leadership in the global marketplace and assure lost-cost, reliable energy here at home; and
WHEREAS, as America celebrates National Clean Energy Week, I encourage all individuals and organizations in Maryland to support common sense solutions that address the nation’s economic and energy needs in the 21st century.
NOW, THEREFORE, I LAWRENCE J. HOGAN, JR., GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF MARYLAND, do hereby proclaim September 21-25, 2020 as NATIONAL CLEAN ENERGY WEEK in Maryland, and do commend this observance to all of our citizens.
National Clean Energy Week (NCEW), described by POLITICO as “a veritable who’s who of the Clean Energy World,” is an annual awareness week to recognize the value of clean energy including abundant job opportunities, economic growth, energy independence, consumer choice, lower energy prices, and a cleaner environment.
