List of Bipartisan Congressional Participants Continues to Expand for Policy Makers Symposium

September 11, 2019 — National Clean Energy Week (NCEW) today announced that U.S. Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) and Congressman John Shimkus (IL-15) will deliver remarks at the Policy Makers Symposium at the National Press Club.

Sen. Romney and Rep. Shimkus join a high-profile group of bipartisan speakers for the annual Policy Makers Symposium which will take place on Thursday, September 26 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET at the National Press Club. A full list of confirmed speakers to date can be found below. Media is encouraged to attend the event and can RSVP for a press credential here.

A strong supporter of clean air and energy, Sen. Romney was sworn-in on January 3, 2019. Recently he helped introduce the Early Action Against Ozone Act, legislation that would allow the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to work with local governments to lower pollution before they violate the Clean Air Act. Rep. Shimkus, a senior member of the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee and Ranking Member of the Environment & Climate Change Subcommittee, brings decades of knowledge and expertise to the event.

“The 2019 Policy Makers Symposium will be National Clean Energy Week’s best one yet, with a line-up that includes a myriad of distinguished speakers, thought leaders and legislators,” said Heather Reams, NCEW chair. “Senator Romney and Congressman Shimkus’s deep understanding and command of energy and national security issues offers a unique perspective for attendees. We are honored to welcome them to this premiere event.”

Now in its third year, NCEW brings together government officials, industry associations, businesses, non-profits, and advocates in the clean energy space for events in Washington, D.C. and across America to showcase how they are helping to make the clean energy sector stronger, and influence the discussion around responsible clean energy solutions that directly address America’s need for abundant, reliable forms of energy.

Other confirmed congressional speakers for the 2019 Policy Makers Symposium to date include:

  • U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL)
  • U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI)
  • U.S. Rep. Garret Graves (LA-6)
