First Ten: Governors Proclaim Clean Energy Week
WASHINGTON – With the 9th Annual National Clean Energy Week (NCEW), two weeks away, the governors of Ohio, Oregon, Idaho, South Dakota and Virginia are the next five governors to issue proclamations recognizing September 15-19, 2025, as Clean Energy Week. These proclamations were made by Govs. Mike DeWine (R-Ohio), Tina Kotek (D-Ore.), Brad Little (R-Idaho), Larry Rhoden (R-S.D.) and Glenn Youngkin (R-Va.).
These governors join the “first five” state proclamations including the District of Columbia, Mississippi, New Mexico, South Carolina and Tennessee in honoring National Clean Energy Week.
“We appreciate the recognition of affordable, reliable and clean energy by Governors DeWine, Kotek, Little, Rhoden and Youngkin and for National Clean Energy Week 2025,” said Heather Reams, Chair of NCEW and President and CEO of Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) Forum. “As the chief executives of their respective states, governors recognize the importance of stable and abundant energy to attract businesses and maintain a strong economy. Each state’s energy makeup is unique and here at National Clean Energy Week, we are proud to celebrate all-of-the-above energy that lowers emissions, keeps prices low and increases high-paying American jobs.”
“Wind, solar, hydro and geothermal power sources, as well as nuclear, natural gas, bioenergy and carbon capture technologies ensure America’s continued leadership in clean energy,” Governor DeWine stated in the proclamation.
“Oregon believes in clean, affordable and readily abundant forms of energy for all. Clean energy is a crucial piece of America’s energy future,” Governor Kotek stated in the proclamation.
“Clean and readily abundant forms of energy are powering more homes and businesses across Idaho than ever before, and in 2024, clean energy sources accounted for 68% of the total electricity generated in the state, the fifth highest in the nation,” Governor Little stated in the proclamation.
“The state of South Dakota supports an all-of-the-above energy portfolio because affordable and dependable energy is the backbone of a strong economy,” Governor Rhoden stated in the proclamation.
“Clean energy is powering more homes and businesses than ever before in Virginia, and the Commonwealth faces both a challenge and an opportunity to meet growing energy demand with cleaner sources,” Governor Youngkin stated in the proclamation.
Launched in 2017, National Clean Energy Week continues to serve as a bipartisan platform for advancing clean energy solutions. This year’s events will feature our flagship Policymakers Symposium, a free, two-day event in Washington, D.C. and streamed online, featuring elected officials, industry experts and advocates working together to build a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
