Alex Fitzsimmons serves as the Associate Deputy Secretary of Energy and Senior Advisor to the Secretary at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). In this role, Alex advances a more affordable, reliable, and secure energy system for the American people. Prior to his current role, Alex was most recently Acting Under Secretary of Energy, in which he oversaw a broad portfolio of applied energy offices and energy financing programs. In addition to his position as Acting Under Secretary, Alex also served as Director of the Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response (CESER). As CESER Director, Alex led DOE’s efforts to safeguard the nation’s energy infrastructure against evolving cyber and physical threats. Prior to these positions, Alex was Chief of Staff to Secretary of Energy Chris Wright. In this role, Alex led the DOE beach-head team on day one and helped the Secretary lead the Department through the first 100 days of the Trump Administration. Alex also served in senior positions at DOE during the first Trump Administration. Alex holds a Master of Science in Cybersecurity from The Georgia Institute of Technology.
