John McCarthy served as Senior Advisor for Political Engagement to President Joe Biden and is currently Principal of Causeway Strategy Group.

In the White House, John built coalitions and managed critical relationships with business leaders, elected officials, and political stakeholders across all 50 states. He served as Deputy National Political Director of Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign and was one of the few staffers to serve all four years of the administration.

A seasoned campaign and Capitol Hill veteran, John has held senior roles with Hillary for America, Obama for America, and the Democratic National Committee. He previously served as chief of staff to Congressman Brendan Boyle (D-PA) and as a policy aide to Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), helping shape legislative priorities on influential committees.

Since 2025, John has served on the Executive Committee of the Democratic National Committee and sits on the boards of the Ireland Funds and the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organization.

A native of New Jersey and a graduate of The Catholic University of America, John is a sought-after political analyst on the future of the Democratic Party, campaigns, and elections.
