Puerto Rico Governor Pedro Pierluisi Recognizes Clean Energy Week 2024

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – For the first time, Governor Pedro Pierluisi (D-P.R.) has officially proclaimed September 23-27, 2024, as Clean Energy Week in Puerto Rico. This proclamation was issued in conjunction with the 8th Annual National Clean Energy Week (NCEW).

“I commend Governor Pierluisi for recognizing Clean Energy Week in Puerto Rico.,” said Heather Reams, chair of NCEW. “Advancing clean energy projects across the country is not only good environmental stewardship, but it is also economically prudent as it spurs the creation of jobs in local communities and strengthens state economies all while providing affordable, reliable clean energy to residents. Governor Pierluisi understands this, and I am encouraged by Puerto Rico’s potential to lead the rest of the nation in clean energy innovation and investment.”

“The government of Puerto Rico has implemented a variety of programs aimed at accelerating the deployment of clean energy systems,” Governor Pierluisi stated in the proclamation. “Puerto Rico continues its strong commitment to advancing clean energy adoption through the development of supportive public polices and regulatory frameworks.”

As Governor Pierluisi’s proclamation highlights, Puerto Rico has over 125,000 rooftop solar installations accounting for more than 800 megawatts of clean energy generation capacity. In addition, Puerto Rico is also investing in new projects that are developing the use of microgrids and integration of energy storage systems.

Last year, 37 governors and 49 municipalities issued proclamations to recognize Clean Energy Week. Learn more about the state proclamations here.

Founded in 2017, NCEW serves as a bipartisan forum convening clean energy leaders and advocates from across the country. The week features dynamic programming, including the Policymakers Symposium—a free, two-day in-person event that spotlights elected officials, business leaders, advocates, policymakers, investors and trade association voices who are committed to promoting clean energy.
