Richard Meyer serves as Vice President of Energy Markets, Analysis, and Standards at the American Gas Association (AGA), representing more than 200 local energy companies that deliver natural gas throughout the United States. In this role, he advances the association’s work to highlight how natural gas utilities provide affordable, reliable, and competitive clean energy solutions to millions of homes and businesses. Now in his fifteenth year with AGA, Richard leads a multidisciplinary team that produces actionable policy and market insights spanning energy economics, environmental analytics, innovative technologies, and end-use codes and standards. By generating forward-thinking analyses and data-driven findings, he helps shape vital industry and policy conversations on reliability, resilience, climate, and sustainability—while emphasizing consumer affordability, efficiency, and emission-reduction pathways. Richard also serves as lead staff to the American Gas Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to delivering independent, objective research on natural gas and gas infrastructure. In this capacity, he has overseen expansions in membership participation and spearheaded projects that inform policy decisions, guide strategic investments, and shape industry practices in the natural gas sector. Prior to joining AGA, Richard conducted natural gas and propane market modeling at ICF. He holds an M.A. in Global Environmental Politics from American University and an M.S. in Physics from California Polytechnic State University. In addition, Richard sits on the Board of Directors of the Business Council for Sustainable Energy, serves on the Leadership Council of the National Capital Area Chapter of the United States Association for Energy Economics, and is an Executive Fellow with the Economic Club of Washington, D.C.
