Georgia Governor Brian Kemp Recognizes Clean Energy Week 2024
ATLANTA– For the fourth year in a row, Governor Brian Kemp (R-Ga.) has officially proclaimed September 23-27, 2024, as Clean Energy Week in Georgia. This proclamation was issued in conjunction with the 8th Annual National Clean Energy Week (NCEW).
“I commend Governor Kemp for recognizing Clean Energy Week in Georgia,” said Heather Reams, chair of NCEW. “Advancing clean energy projects across the country is not only good environmental stewardship, but it is also economically prudent as it spurs the creation of jobs in local communities and strengthens state economies all while providing affordable, reliable clean energy to residents. Governor Kemp understands this, and I am encouraged by Georgia’s potential to lead the rest of the nation in clean energy innovation and investment.”
“Communities across our state depend on many forms of clean energy, including natural gas and nuclear production,” Governor Kemp stated in the proclamation. “Collaboration among Georgia’s entrepreneurs, small businesses, municipalities and state and local entities is necessary to promote America’s energy independence in the global marketplace and to assure that low-cost, reliable energy is available here at home.”
As Governor Kemp’s proclamation highlights, Georgia is home to the Vogtle nuclear plant – the largest nuclear power plant in the nation. Georgia is also the sixth-largest producer of hydroelectric power east of the Mississippi, and the clean energy sector provided over 80,000 jobs in Georgia last year.
Last year, Governor Kemp was among the 37 governors and 49 municipalities that issued proclamations to recognize Clean Energy Week. Learn more about the state proclamations here.
