North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper Recognizes Clean Energy Week 2024
RALEIGH, N.C. – For the fifth year in a row, Governor Roy Cooper (D-N.C.) has officially proclaimed September 23-27, 2024, as Clean Energy Week in North Carolina. This proclamation was issued in conjunction with the 8th Annual National Clean Energy Week (NCEW).
“I commend Governor Cooper for recognizing Clean Energy Week in North Carolina,” said Heather Reams, chair of NCEW. “Advancing clean energy projects across the country is not only good environmental stewardship, but it is also economically prudent as it spurs the creation of jobs in local communities and strengthens state economies all while providing affordable, reliable clean energy to residents. Governor Cooper understands this, and I am encouraged by North Carolina’s potential to lead the rest of the nation in clean energy innovation and investment.”
“North Carolina is moving into a clean energy future that will create jobs, reduce harmful emissions and protect our environment and our health,” Governor Cooper stated in the proclamation.
As Governor Cooper’s proclamation highlights, North Carolina ranks number one in clean energy jobs in rural areas and fourth in installed solar energy capacity. Additionally, more than 135,000 North Carolinians are employed in energy efficiency, renewable energy, electric transportation, energy storage and other energy technology sectors.
Last year, Governor Cooper was among the 37 governors and 49 municipalities that issued proclamations to recognize Clean Energy Week. Learn more about the state proclamations here.
Founded in 2017, NCEW serves as a bipartisan forum convening clean energy leaders and advocates from across the country. The week features dynamic programming, including the Policymakers Symposium—a free, two-day in-person event that spotlights elected officials, business leaders, advocates, policymakers, investors and trade association voices who are committed to promoting clean energy.
