South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem Recognizes Clean Energy Week 2024

PIERRE, S.D. – For the sixth year in a row, Governor Kristi Noem (R-S.D.) has officially proclaimed September 23-27, 2024, as Clean Energy Week in South Dakota. This proclamation was issued in conjunction with the 8th Annual National Clean Energy Week (NCEW)

“I commend Governor Noem for recognizing Clean Energy Week in South Dakota,” said Heather Reams, chair of NCEW. “Advancing clean energy projects across the country is not only good environmental stewardship, but it is also economically prudent as it spurs the creation of jobs in local communities and strengthens state economies all while providing affordable, reliable clean energy to residents. Governor Noem understands this, and I am encouraged by South Dakota’s potential to lead the rest of the nation in clean energy innovation and investment.”

“The state of South Dakota supports an all-inclusive energy portfolio because dependable energy is the backbone of a strong economy,” Governor Noem stated in the proclamation. “Clean energy is part of America’s energy future.”

As Governor Noem’s proclamation highlights, 77 percent of the state’s total electricity was produced through renewable resources with 55 percent of that share coming from wind energy. South Dakota’s clean energy sector also provides more than 13,000 jobs in the state.

Last year, Governor Noem was among the 37 governors and 49 municipalities that issued proclamations to recognize Clean Energy Week. Learn more about the state proclamations here.

Founded in 2017, NCEW serves as a bipartisan forum convening clean energy leaders and advocates from across the country. The week features dynamic programming, including the Policymakers Symposium—a free, two-day in-person event that spotlights elected officials, business leaders, advocates, policymakers, investors and trade association voices who are committed to promoting clean energy.
