West Virginia Governor Jim Justice Recognizes Clean Energy Week 2024
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – For the fifth year in a row, Governor Jim Justice (R-W.Va.) has officially proclaimed September 23-27, 2024, as Clean Energy Week in West Virginia. This proclamation was issued in conjunction with the 8th Annual National Clean Energy Week (NCEW).
“I commend Governor Justice for recognizing Clean Energy Week in West Virginia,” said Heather Reams, chair of NCEW. “Advancing clean energy projects across the country is not only good environmental stewardship, but it is also economically prudent as it spurs the creation of jobs in local communities and strengthens state economies all while providing affordable, reliable clean energy to residents. Governor Justice understands this, and I am encouraged by West Virginia’s potential to lead the rest of the nation in clean energy innovation and investment.”
“West Virginia has a long history as an energy powerhouse for our nation, thanks to our hardworking people who know how to get the job done,” Governor Justice stated in the proclamation. “The state is making great strides on implementing its all-of-the-above energy strategy approach, creating thousands of jobs throughout West Virginia and ensuring adequate power supply for our great nation.”
As Governor Justice’s proclamation highlights, West Virginia was selected for a $2 billion hydrogen project last year expected to create thousands of good paying jobs. The state also ranks top five in the nation for total energy production and nearly 2.5 percent of the state’s electricity in 2021 came from hydropower.
Last year, Governor Justice was among the 37 governors and 49 municipalities that issued proclamations to recognize Clean Energy Week. Learn more about the state proclamations here.
