Congress Celebrates 2024 National Clean Energy Week with Bipartisan, Bicameral Resolution

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senators Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) and U.S. Representatives Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa) and Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) led the introduction of a bicameral, bipartisan resolution recognizing September 23-27, 2024, as National Clean Energy Week (NCEW).

“Thank you to Sens. Collins and Cantwell and Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Blunt Rochester for leading this bipartisan, bicameral resolution celebrating the power of clean energy in the United States,” said Heather Reams, chair of NCEW. “Through bipartisan collaboration like this, we can create durable, long-lasting policies that can withstand political shifts while continuing to reduce global emissions and strengthen our economy.”

“America’s clean energy sector creates good-paying jobs; strengthens local, regional, and national economies; and holds great promise in the fight against climate change,” said Senator Collins. “This bipartisan resolution recognizes the importance of clean energy sources and encourages investment in clean, low-emitting energy technologies to reduce harmful pollutants and leave the earth better than we found it.”

“Investing in clean energy and modernizing our nation’s grid will make America’s electricity supplies more secure, abundant, and affordable all while creating new jobs. The clean energy investments we make right now will have substantial impacts on our climate, economy, and global competitiveness for generations to come,” said Senator Cantwell.

“National Clean Energy Week is a time to acknowledge all the progress Iowa has made from lowering emissions without mandates or reducing energy supply to offering a roadmap for other states to use as a guide to a cleaner future for America to demonstrating the opportunities that come from flexibility and an any– of-the-above approach to energy production,” said Rep. Miller-Meeks, M.D. “I am proud to introduce this resolution with Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester to kick off National Clean Energy Week and find solutions, explore various industries, and celebrate the wide range of energy options available right here in the United States.”

“The 8th Annual National Clean Energy Week is a chance for all of us to come together and celebrate the innovations and policies that help produce clean and sustainable energy,” said Rep. Blunt Rochester. “I’m proud to work with Rep. Miller-Meeks to show that clean energy isn’t a partisan issue and that we can power our homes and economy in a way that helps us fight the climate crisis and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”

In addition to Senators Collins and Cantwell, the bipartisan resolution is cosponsored by Senators Bill Cassidy (R-La.), Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.V.), Chris Coons (D-Del.), Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.), Angus King (I-Maine), Jack Reed (D-R.I.), Mitt Romney (R-Utah), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Tina Smith (D-Minn.), Dan Sullivan (R-Ark.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.).
