First Five: Governors Proclaim Clean Energy Week Across the Nation

WASHINGTON – As the 8th Annual National Clean Energy Week approaches, the governors of AlabamaArizonaMississippiNew Hampshire and South Carolina are the first states to issue proclamations recognizing September 23-27, 2024, as Clean Energy Week. These proclamations were made by Govs. Kay Ivey (R-Ala.), Katie Hobbs (D-Ariz.), Tate Reeves (R-Miss.), Chris Sununu (R-N.H.) and Henry McMaster (R-S.C.).

“Thank you to Governors Ivey, Hobbs, Reeves, Sununu and McMaster for recognizing Clean Energy Week in their states,” said Heather Reams, chair of NCEW. “These proclamations underscore that support for clean energy innovation and investment transcends party lines – not just because it helps reduce global emissions, but also because it brings new investment to their state, creates jobs, strengthens the power grid and grows the economy. Our nation’s leaders are acutely aware of the wide-ranging benefits clean energy offers to their constituents and business leaders, and we look forward to further amplifying the governors’ work to reduce emissions, not energy choices, in their respective states.”

Last year, an unprecedented 37 governors and 49 municipalities issued proclamations in support of Clean Energy Week. The first five proclamations of this year highlight the significant number of state leaders who recognize and champion clean energy industries that drive economic growth and ensure affordable, reliable and clean energy for their residents. Founded in 2017, NCEW serves as a bipartisan forum convening clean energy leaders and advocates from across the country. The week features dynamic programming, including the Policymakers Symposium—a free, two-day in-person event that spotlights elected officials, business leaders, advocates, policymakers, investors and trade association voices who are committed to promoting clean energy.
