Oregon Governor Tina Kotek Recognizes Clean Energy Week 2024
SALEM, Ore. – For the first time, Governor Tina Kotek (D-Ore.) has officially proclaimed September 23-27, 2024, as Clean Energy Week in Oregon. This proclamation was issued in conjunction with the 8th Annual National Clean Energy Week (NCEW).
“I commend Governor Kotek for recognizing Clean Energy Week in Oregon,” said Heather Reams, chair of NCEW. “Advancing clean energy projects across the country is not only good environmental stewardship, but it is also economically prudent as it spurs the creation of jobs in local communities and strengthens state economies all while providing affordable, reliable clean energy to residents. Governor Kotek understands this, and I am encouraged by Oregon’s potential to lead the rest of the nation in clean energy innovation and investment.”
“Oregon believes in clean, affordable and readily abundant forms of energy for all, and clean energy is a crucial piece of America’s energy future,” Governor Kotek stated in the proclamation. “Oregon continues to be a leader in clean energy for the benefit of our environment and economic future.”
As Governor Kotek’s highlights, Oregon’s clean energy economy has created more than 58,000 jobs. In addition, 62 percent of the state’s electricity net generation comes from renewable sources, and 42 percent of Oregon’s utility-scale electricity net generation comes from hydroelectric power.
Last year, 37 governors and 49 municipalities issued proclamations to recognize Clean Energy Week. Learn more about the state proclamations here.
Founded in 2017, NCEW serves as a bipartisan forum convening clean energy leaders and advocates from across the country. The week features dynamic programming, including the Policymakers Symposium—a free, two-day in-person event that spotlights elected officials, business leaders, advocates, policymakers, investors and trade association voices who are committed to promoting clean energy.
