Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin Recognizes Clean Energy Week 2024
RICHMOND, Va. – For the second year in a row, Governor Glenn Youngkin (R-Va.) has officially proclaimed September 23-27, 2024, as Clean Energy Week in Virginia. This proclamation was issued in conjunction with the 8th Annual National Clean Energy Week (NCEW).
“I commend Governor Youngkin for recognizing Clean Energy Week in Virginia,” said Heather Reams, chair of NCEW. “Advancing clean energy projects across the country is not only good environmental stewardship, but it is also economically prudent as it spurs the creation of jobs in local communities and strengthens state economies all while providing affordable, reliable clean energy to residents. Governor Youngkin understands this, and I am encouraged by Virginia’s potential to lead the rest of the nation in clean energy innovation and investment.”
“Virginia faces an opportunity and challenge to meet unprecedented growth in energy demand with increasingly clean energy sources,” Governor Youngkin stated in the proclamation. “Virginia must come together with an all-of-the-above energy plan to assert American energy leadership and ensure low-cost reliable energy at home.”
As Governor Youngkin’s proclamation highlights, Virginia is home to the North Anna Nuclear Generating Station and Surry Nuclear Power Plant, which are the largest producers of clean energy in the state, producing baseload power 24/7, 365 days a year. In addition, Virginia’s clean energy sector supported over 197,000 solar, wind, and nuclear-focused jobs in 2022.
Last year, Governor Youngkin was among the 37 governors and 49 municipalities that issued proclamations to recognize Clean Energy Week. Learn more about the state proclamations here.
