WASHINGTON – With the 10th Annual National Clean Energy Week (NCEW) taking place this week, the leaders of Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Illinois and Michigan are the next five to issue proclamations recognizing September 14-18, 2026, as Clean Energy Week. The proclamations were issued by Govs. Andy Beshear (D-Ky.), Janet Mills (D-Maine), Wes Moore (D-Md.), JB Pritzker (D-Ill.) and Gretchen Whitmer (D-Mich.).

These leaders join Alaska, Arizona, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Washington, D.C. and Wisconsin whose governors and mayor issued the first ten proclamations of the year. View all 2026 proclamations here.

“We’re proud to welcome Governors Beshear, Mills, Moore, Pritzker and Whitmer to the growing number of state leaders recognizing Clean Energy Week,” said James Dozier, Chair of NCEW and President of Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) Forum. “These governors, representing diverse states, regions and landscapes across the country, demonstrate the important role all clean energy technologies can play in powering our communities, strengthening the grid and growing the American economy.”

“The energy future of Kentucky and America depends on utilizing an all-of-the-above approach, including natural gas, coal, renewables, and ever-growing nuclear,” Governor Andy Beshear stated in the proclamation. 

“National Clean Energy Week provides an opportunity for individuals, local governments, corporations, and other organizations in Maine to champion commonsense solutions that address the United States’ evolving economic and energy needs,” Governor Janet Mills stated in the proclamation. 

“Clean energy—including solar wind, hydropower, nuclear, geothermal, and battery storage—is part of our state’s and our country’s energy future,” Governor Wes Moore stated in the proclamation. 

“Illinois believes in clean, affordable, and reliable abundant forms of energy for all, and clean energy is a crucial piece of America’s energy future,” Governor JB Pritzker stated in the proclamation. 

“We must harness the power of Michigan entrepreneurs and small businesses and ensure government collaboration to assert American energy leadership and dominance in the global marketplace and assure low-cost reliable energy here at home,” Governor Gretchen Whitmer stated in the proclamation. 

Launched in 2017, National Clean Energy Week continues to serve as a bipartisan platform for advancing clean energy solutions. This year’s events will feature our flagship Policymakers Symposium, a free, two-day event in Washington, D.C. and streamed online, featuring elected officials, industry leaders and advocates working together to build a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
