Maryland Governor Wes Moore Recognizes Clean Energy Week 2024
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – For the first time, Governor Wes Moore (D-Md.) has officially proclaimed September 23-27, 2024, as Clean Energy Week in Maryland. This proclamation was issued in conjunction with the 8th Annual National Clean Energy Week (NCEW).
“I commend Governor Moore for recognizing Clean Energy Week in Maryland,” said Heather Reams, chair of NCEW. “Advancing clean energy projects across the country is not only good environmental stewardship, but it is also economically prudent as it spurs the creation of jobs in local communities and strengthens state economies all while providing affordable, reliable clean energy to residents. Governor Moore understands this, and I am encouraged by Maryland’s potential to lead the rest of the nation in clean energy innovation and investment.”
“The state of Maryland supports all-of-the-above energy strategies because clean, affordable and reliable energy is the foundation on which a strong economy is built,” Governor Moore stated in the proclamation.
As Governor Moore’s proclamation highlights, Maryland’s clean energy sector provides over 81,000 jobs in the state and the Maryland General Assembly enacted law to reach net-zero emissions by 2045.
Last year, 37 governors and 49 municipalities issued proclamations to recognize Clean Energy Week. Learn more about the state proclamations here.
Founded in 2017, NCEW serves as a bipartisan forum convening clean energy leaders and advocates from across the country. The week features dynamic programming, including the Policymakers Symposium—a free, two-day in-person event that spotlights elected officials, business leaders, advocates, policymakers, investors and trade association voices who are committed to promoting clean energy.
